Wimborne’s Great Big Choc Bake Off! Who Will Take The Cake Crown?

Calling all chocolate lovers, star bakers and kitchen creatives, Wimborne Food Festival and Wimborne Minster Council is inviting the community to rise to the challenge in its Chocolate Cake Competition, taking place on Saturday 19 September.
Participants are encouraged to create their most delicious and visually stunning chocolate cake and bring them to the Marquee on Willow Walk near Waitrose between 3:00 pm and 3.30pm on the day of the event.
The competition will be judged by a panel of experts, including Great British Bake Off contestant Maggie Richardson and top Dorset chef Colin Nash, who will be casting their keen eyes over flavour, creativity and presentation. And who knows - you might even earn a Paul Hollywood-style handshake from Maggie herself!
This deliciously fun contest invites cake enthusiasts of all ages to bake for a good cause. Once the winners are announced, slices of the cakes will be sold to raise funds for the mayor’s chosen causes – Lewis Manning Hospice and Waggy Tails Rescue, turning every bake into a meaningful contribution to the community.
The top prize is a stunning Neff pan set, worth over £100 generously donated by Dacombes of Wimborne. As well as an adult category, this year’s competition features two junior categories: 7–11 years and 12–16 years, with book token prizes for the triumphant younger bakers.
Mayor of Wimborne Jeff Hart is encouraging young bakers to get involved: “We’d love to see entries from Scouts, Guides, youth groups and all young baking enthusiasts. No experience needed - just enthusiasm and a love of cake and chocolate!”
Wimborne Food Festival is organised by Wimborne BID with support from Dacombes of Wimborne. It is a celebration of local food, drink and produce from across Dorset. A host of free mouthwatering events, pop-up food tastings, live music, alfresco parties and cooking demonstrations will be taking place around the town from 10am until 4pm.
